Connecticut Community Events
At Scholastic Mortgage we feel it is important to be active in the community. Some would say part of being successful is leaving the world a better place than it was before you got here...we agree.
We are active in 7 Chambers and participate in numerous nonprofit organizations. Below are some of the functions and programs Scholastic Mortgage is proud to have been and will continue to be a part of.
December 3rd - 2nd Annual Holiday Xtravaganza - Benefit for United Way of Milford
Last years event was a great success and we expect this year to be even better. What can put a smile on someones face more than good friends, good food & drink, and holiday spirit? I'll tell you what - looking around a room and seeing it is more than what meets the eye. It is members of a business community coming together to help out their fellow neighbor.
For more information on how to participate in one heck of a holiday party, visit www.scholasticmortgage.com/uwbenefit for information and preregistration.
November 22nd, 2008 - KC101 Stuff-a-Bus
With all the planning we are doing with our United Way fundraiser we kinda lost track of the time and when the KC101 Stuff-a Bus event was taking place. On Thursday November 2oth we sent an email out to the employees on the event and our hope for their participation. As of Saturday morning we were all scrambling running around collecting items for the event. We were proud to have collected 101 Turkeys and bags of non-perishable food items. GREAT job team...another stellar effort.
An additional treat was David LeClair (Partner) and Tyler (Partner Victoria Pohl's son) rapping on KC101. Ahhh...always the unexpected.

September 28th, 2008 - Sikorsky Skin Cancer Walk -
Special thanks to our staff for participating in the walk on behalf of Scholastic Mortgage.

September 22st, 2008 - Rob Fumiatti Memorial Golf Tournament
I grew up the son of a Police Officer. I listened to the stories, some glorious...some grim. I learned to appreciate the sacrifice that is made and witness what little appreciation is given.
As a result of that, as well as the assistance given to my father long after he was retired, I tried to find a way to give back. Scholastic Mortgage is active in various Police organizations and we help out as much as possible.
In June of 2002 Fumiatti was shot in the line of duty. A drug raid in New Haven turned violent, a suspected drug dealer shot the officer in the face and neck. (Nearly two years after the shooting, the gunman, Arnold Bell was convicted and sentenced to 45 years in prison.)
With prayers and medical technology Fumiatti fought back. Spending months in recovery enduring a long battle both physically and mentally. One of the bullets forever lodged in his brain, a pacemaker monitoring his heart.
In September 2004 Officer Fumiatti was awarded a purple heart for his bravery and courage in the line of duty by the local war veterans. Following his passion Fumiatti returned to work, this time as the Coordinator for the department's "Stop the Violence" campaign.
4 years later, on January 10th, 2007, the man who fought back so hard to live, passed away. Officer Robert Fumiatti was 35-years old, he left behind a wife and three children.

We are proud supporters of unions throughout Connecticut, New England, and the U.S.. We take pride knowing we provide the working men and women of america with competitive products and personalized service. We are, and will continue to be, proud of our participation to make their fund raising efforts a success.
September 5th, 2008 - IFC Golf Outing
Another fine organization taking time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community...especially the YMCA. We were proud, as well as appreciative, in taking part in a great day and doing our small part in helping community children.

August 2nd and 3rd, 2008 - Pan Mass Challenge - Boston
You can never do enough to help the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We were proud to sponsor 8 members of the "blood, sweat, tears and gears" team - members from Naugatuck and Cromwell.
A 2-day, 165 mile bike race, cyclists from 36 states and eight countries will ride across the Commonwealth in the 29th annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. Their goal is to raise $34 million for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.

July 14th, 2008 - Milford Chamber of Commerce BIC Golf Outing
A fine day, as always. We were happy to have sponsored the golf carts and provided a 4-some. David Leclair, Timothy Birtles (Broker of Eye Spy Realty), Myself (Edward Woodhead), and Sloane Googin (of Nielsen Company) hung in as long as we could. In the end our score card showed no justice to how good of a day we had. We look forward to our continued support of such a fine event.

June 20th, 2008 - Dan Orlovsky Golf Classic
First 9 holes we came out of the gate full steam ahead. Unfortunately somewhere along the line we focused more on good times and laughs, but were still able to finish 6th (Sloane Googin carried us). Not too shabby.
My family and I were fortunate enough to attend this special fundraiser. Our boys, Julian and Jacob, had a blast play fighting with Detroit Lions QB Dan Orlovsky and UCONN QB Tyler Lorenzen. I was a bit nervous when Dan unexpectedly took a shot to the neck, though it was instigated by Tyler. Good times, great event, my sincere appreciation to Attorney Robert Berchem for having us along.
The Foundation is primarily a special events organization, raising nearly all its monies through sporting events, celebrity galas, auctions, and The Dan Orlovsky Golf Classic. The goal of the Dan Orlovsky Foundation is to bring hope to our youth who desperately deserve it and be the position roll model they deserve.

June 6th, 2008 - East Hartford Chamber of Commerce 25th Annual Golf Tournament
We were more than happy to support this event...even happier when we took 1st place. Hats off to myself, David LeClair, Timothy Birtles, and Bryan Goh. Tim and Bryan basically carried Dave and I...but to our defense there was a Vodka station, 2 beer stations, and plenty of cigars.
June, 2008 - Junior Major Scholastic Mortgage Red Sox
What is more enjoyable than seeing little kids playing america's favorite past time...Baseball (okay okay...T-ball). Julian & Jacob (starting from left, my twin boys) and Hunter (son of Erika Fonck, Marketing Dept. Manager) were focused, determined, technically sound...ahhh, who are we kidding...they loved playing in the dirt. Looking forward to next year.

June, 2008 - East Hartford Little League - Scholastic Mortgage
2nd year as sponsor of the Scholastic Mortgage team.
December 6th, 2007 - Holiday Extravaganza - Benefit for United Way of Milford
Anyone who knows me is well aware of my obsession for Christmas. The smell, the difference in people, everyone is so much nicer, the random greetings and acts of kindness on the street. Everywhere you go it is in the air.
But it is not all holly and mistletoe toe for everyone. Not everyone has the love of family and the companionship of friends. The United Way extends a helping hand to those in need throughout the entire year. We are proud to assist in their effort to make every home a better place to live.
